Project Information
nxus is an independent publication exploring the intersection of culture, politics, and creative industries through a Black and Brown womxn-led perspective. Built to document stories overlooked by traditional media, the platform required an identity with the editorial authority of a serious publication and the cultural specificity to speak directly to the audiences it was created to serve.
The strategic foundation centered on four guiding principles: cultural authorship, editorial clarity, purposeful amplification, and documentation as preservation. These principles shaped every creative decision, establishing a clear point of view before a single visual element was developed. The goal was to position nxus as a publication committed to documenting culture with intention, not simply covering it.
The visual identity draws from contemporary editorial design, independent publishing, and the relationship between historical print media and modern digital platforms. A custom wordmark serves as the foundation, designed for flexibility across digital interfaces, publication layouts, and campaign applications. Supporting it is a symbolic visual language built around recurring editorial marks and an original brand figure, creating an expandable identity system with room to grow alongside the publication itself.
Typography, color, and graphic elements were developed to balance authority with creative expression, giving the brand the range to feel equally at home on magazine covers, campaign posters, social media, and long-form editorial spreads. Because nxus is a publication first, language became as central to the identity as the visuals. Messaging was developed around clarity, accountability, and cultural perspective, resulting in a consistent editorial voice that informs headlines, campaigns, contributor communications, and storytelling across every platform.
The result is a publication identity built for longevity. By combining strategic positioning with an expandable visual language, nxus stands as a recognizable editorial brand prepared to grow across journalism, multimedia, and cultural storytelling for years to come.
