A complete brand and digital experience for a neighborhood lunch counter and community creative hub inside Washington DC's Anacostia Arts Center. Led end-to-end creative direction across identity, illustration, packaging, and web design — building a brand where food becomes part of the cultural experience.

Project Information

Culture To Go is a neighborhood lunch counter and community creative hub located inside the Anacostia Arts Center in Washington, DC. Built around the intersection of culinary craft, gallery culture, and community gathering, the concept transforms every visit into an experience where food becomes part of the exhibition itself. Seasonal menus, naturally leavened breads, and rotating programming make the space as much a cultural destination as it is a place to eat.

The creative challenge was building a brand capable of holding all of that with confidence. The identity needed to feel approachable enough for a daily lunch crowd while carrying the cultural weight of one of DC's most historically significant creative districts. Every touchpoint had to communicate that food and art belonged together, not side by side, but as one experience.

The creative direction drew from local delis, gallery signage, handmade packaging, and the living energy of Anacostia itself. The result was a visual language that feels expressive, familiar, and unmistakably local, built around bold typography, vibrant neighborhood-inspired color, hand-drawn illustration, and sticker-style brand elements designed to feel collected over time rather than manufactured all at once.

The final identity extended far beyond a logo. A complete visual system was developed spanning primary and secondary logo variations, illustration library, iconography, packaging concepts, environmental graphics, and a website designed to introduce visitors to the philosophy before guiding them anywhere else. The system was built as a flexible toolkit capable of growing alongside the business, from sandwiches and catering to gallery events and community workshops.

Culture To Go launched with a brand that matched the full ambition of the concept behind it, establishing a recognizable creative destination within Anacostia with room to grow for years to come.
